Prom fashion: then vs now

Slow dancing in the dark, placing corsages and boutonnieres on one another, and fetching food and drinks for your date; prom is notorious for the exquisite memories made and elegant photos.

And when comparing dress trends from the past with dress trends now, many of the trends have either stood the test of time or are highly regretted.

For instance, in the ‘80’s, the trending dress styles included full and “poofy” with multiple layers. Although those styles have diminished, people view them as a token from the past. Moreover, in the past, the common fabric utilized in the dresses included: lace, satin, taffeta, and sequins. Also, in order to complement their outfits, they would use hats in the ‘80’s and elbow length gloves in the early ‘90’s.

Nowadays, many notice the commonality in cut-outs revealing back, midriff, and legs. This is because the craze is the exposure of skin; specifically, it is likely for there to be slits revealing the woman’s legs, and slender straps exposing the woman’s arms and shoulders.

While dresses back in the 80s-90s typically costed around $100.00, dresses now vary depending on where they are purchased and the style itself. Rose bargained with $39.98 for her solid black dress with a slit. However, sometimes people have the money, and like Katherine Mund, pay about $115.00. Likewise, Breanna Tejeda spent $100 on her dress.
