Vaping deaths revive E-cigarette debate

Vaping has become one of the fastest growing drug trends among the American population, appealing to long time nicotine users, as well as a new younger audience. However due to recent medical complications and discoveries the government is wanting to install regulations on the unexplored market. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), about 380 cases of lung illness have been reported from thirty-six states, and eight deaths have occurred: all related to e-cigarettes.

The CDC is unsure of what part of vaping contributes to the illness and death, however they are doing further investigations to pinpoint what about vaping causes this. Consequently, the number of illnesses and deaths are now drawing the attention of politicians and the FDA. According to The Guardian, the FDA is currently looking to ban e-cigarettes and vaping products due to the influx of usage among teenagers. To add on, the government is looking to take the Juul completely off the market if tobacco companies don’t find a better regulation policy. The FDA and the government are currently collaborating to form an outline to ban vaping products in order to ensure the safety of the American people. Even though they are only in the early throws of passing these bans and regulations, politicians and the FDA are rapidly trying to make change, in order to prevent further harm that is being caused by vaping products.
