Now that the NBA season has begun, the Warriors are faced with the challenge of not having star player Klay Thompson. Without Thompson will the Warriors be able to achieve the goals set for themselves?
Due to Klay Thompson’s ACL tear in the 2019 NBA Finals he had to miss the 2019-2020 season getting them a 15-50 record and as a result of that th the second pick in the NBA draft. As time proceeded, so did Thompson's healing process as he began to prepare for the upcoming 2020-2021 season. However, he unexpectedly tore his achilles in his right leg, giving him and the team another set back. This was a big blow for the Warriors across the entire organization when finding this out, losing the expectations they had getting back to that championship level team they once had. Lucky though the Warriors were able to trade for Kelly Oubre Jr. who was an 18 point per game scorer in the 2019-2020 season. This helped fill out the team for the Shooting Guard/ Small Forward position since they didn’t have a lot of depth behind Klay. The Warriors also picked up James Wiseman in the 2020 draft with the second overall pick giving them a young, star potential center, who could be wonders for this organization.
However, after all of this happened to the Warriors Tim Legler explained “To me they are a playoff team, I think you can take contender out of it without Klay.”
Even though the expectation for the team to make it to the Finals is not there anymore like it was in the past, there are high expectations for Stephen Curry. With the loss of Klay Thompson, Stephen Curry is now faced with the task of trying to lead his team to the playoffs for the first time without a major star. Many believe that Stephen Curry is not even capable to make it to the playoffs by himself. Even if Stephen Curry leads his team to the playoffs most are sure that there is no way that the Warriors will win a championship.with only Stephen Curry
“Steph Curry ain’t winning a championship without Klay Thompson and Klay Thompson ain’t winning without Steph Curry.” admitted Stephen A. Smith
