The overhype of anniversarys

Anniversaries have always been a big deal, especially in friendships, relationships, marriages, etc. But should all anniversaries be celebrated?

Most anniversaries, nowadays, aren’t celebrated over anything big. Most people spend time celebrating 1 or 2 month “anniversaries”, which aren't huge accomplishments. For example, some LHS students have anniversaries for “the first time they’ve shared a playlist with someone 2 weeks ago” or “the first time they met someone in a PE class a month ago”. It’s understandable for LHS students to enjoy spending their time celebrating friendship or relationship anniversaries, but is it really worth celebrating if it’s been under a year?

If anything, the pressure of celebrating anniversaries doesn’t always bring people together. “To us it seemed strange to set aside a couple of days of the year to demonstrate how much we care for each other, especially with cheap chocolate and candy” (insider.com).

So instead of depending on anniversaries to build a stronger friendship or relationship, people should do cute, small things without the pressure of celebrating an occasion. “Instead we do special things because we want to, not because they’re expected” (insider.com).
